Celebrity Millennium Cruise – Day 2: Relaxing in Port Shimizu

Relaxing in Port Shimizu with Stunning Mount Fuji Views

After four whirlwind days exploring the neon lights, bustling streets, and endless sights of Tokyo, we decided it was time to slow things down. Day 2 of our 12-night Japan and South Korea cruise aboard the Celebrity Millennium brought us to Port of Shimizu—and honestly, it might just be one of the most beautiful cruise ports in Japan.

πŸŒ… Morning Tea with Mount Fuji
The day began perfectly—with an early morning tea and snacks, followed by breakfast with my daughter. But the real star of the morning? Mount Fuji, standing tall and majestic right outside our window.

Fun fact: My daughter, who works as a stitcher for Celebrity Cruises, told me that the last time the ship docked here, it was reversed, meaning only first-class passengers got a view of Mount Fuji. This time, everyone onboard got this breathtaking sight, and wow—it was worth waking up early for!

🚒 Why Port Shimizu is Special
Shimizu is considered one of Japan’s three most beautiful ports thanks to its incredible proximity to Mount Fuji. And I totally get why—it feels like the mountain is welcoming you personally.

We didn’t book any big excursions for today. After all, we needed a little breather after Tokyo’s non-stop energy. One of the best things about this port? Everything is within walking distance from where the ship docks, so you can explore at your own pace.

🎑 Dream Plaza & Local Flavors

We made our way to S-Pulse Dream Plaza, a seaside entertainment and shopping complex. Here you’ll find:

  • A small amusement park
  • A movie theater
  • Restaurants (including the famous Shimizu Sushi Alley)
  • And a giant Ferris wheel with panoramic views of Suruga Bay

Our main goal for the day was simple—grab some lunch and pick up souvenirs. Mission accomplished at Suruga Miyage Alley, where we enjoyed a delicious Japanese curry and browsed for local treats to bring home.ο»Ώ

πŸ’ The Perfect Chill Port Day

Sometimes, a relaxing port day is exactly what you need on a long cruise itinerary. Shimizu gave us just that—beautiful scenery, local flavors, easy access, and no stress. Plus, how many places in the world let you enjoy lunch with a view of Mount Fuji?

If you’re enjoying this cruise journey with us, let me know—would you plan a relaxing day in port like we did, or go all-in with excursions?

Stay tuned for more adventures as we continue sailing through Japan and South Korea on the Celebrity Millennium!

Did you know there’s a place in South Dakota where you can literally take home a piece of history? πŸ‘€ Yep—welcome back to Part 3 of our Crazy Horse Memorial adventure, where we dive into one of the most meaningful and fascinating areas of the entire complex: the Native American Educational and Cultural Center. Located in the heart of the Black Hills of South Dakota, Crazy Horse Memorial is already one of the most awe-inspiring monuments in the United States—but stepping into this center takes the experience to a whole new level.

πŸ‘€ “Would you believe me if I told you this mountain has had over ELEVEN MILLION tons of rock blasted away… and it’s still not finished? Let me show you why this $5 tour is one of the best travel deals in America.” Welcome to Part 2 of our Crazy Horse Memorial adventure — and today we’re hopping on the guided bus tour that takes you right up to the mountain itself. For just five dollars per person, this ride gets you shockingly close to the carving-in-progress — and trust me… hearing the story while standing beneath it hits completely different. Our guide, Allen, shared how this all began back in 1947, when sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski arrived in the Black Hills from Connecticut… to a place with no roads, no water, no electricity. He literally lived in a tent for seven months before clearing trees and building a log studio by hand. By the late 1950s, with ten kids to raise, the family even opened a dairy farm right on site — and today they still raise cattle here. Oh — and the very first admission to Crazy Horse in 1950? πŸ‘‰ Just 50 cents per carload.

“If you’re going to Mount Rushmore and NOT stopping here… you’re doing South Dakota wrong.” And honestly? I stand by that. 😏 Just 30 minutes from Mount Rushmore, tucked into the heart of the Black Hills of South Dakota, sits one of the most fascinating landmarks in the United States — the Crazy Horse Memorial. This isn’t just another quick roadside attraction. It’s one of the largest mountain carving projects in the world… and it’s still being built today. If you’re planning a Mount Rushmore road trip, a South Dakota vacation, or a national parks adventure, put this stop high on your list.
