5 Must-Try Foods in Osaka’s Dotonbori

If you’re heading to Osaka, Japan, prepare your taste buds—because this city is a foodie’s paradise! On Day 3 of our 12-day Celebrity Cruise (Japan to South Korea), we had the ultimate overnight stop in Osaka, which meant one very important thing… plenty of time to explore Dotonbori’s famous street food.

And let me tell you: you can’t leave Osaka without trying these five must-try foods. Let’s dive in!

1. Takoyaki – Osaka’s Most Famous Street Food 🐙

If Osaka had an official snack, it would be Takoyaki. These crispy golden balls are stuffed with tender pieces of octopus, brushed with a savory sauce, and topped with bonito flakes that dance in the steam. Takoyaki was actually invented in Osaka back in the 1930s, so eating it here is basically a rite of passage. Trust me—you’ll see stalls on almost every corner, and you’ll want to try more than one.

2. Strawberry Mania – The Sweetest Stop in Osaka 🍓

Next up: Strawberry Mania, aka heaven for strawberry lovers. This Instagram-famous dessert shop serves up fresh, juicy strawberries in the most decadent ways. From sponge cakes layered with cream and berries to chewy Daifuku (a strawberry wrapped in mochi), and even candied strawberries on sticks, it’s impossible to resist. The best part? These shops are sprinkled all around Osaka, so if you spot one—stop in!

3. Fresh-Squeezed Orange Juice – From a Vending Machine! 🍊

Japan takes vending machines to a whole new level. At Feed Me Orange, you can grab freshly squeezed orange juice right from a machine that slices the oranges, squeezes them, and drops the juice into your cup while you watch. It’s sweet, refreshing, and honestly, one of the coolest vending machine experiences you’ll ever have. Perfect pick-me-up while walking the busy Dotonbori streets!

4. Ice Melon Pan – The Viral Dessert Worth the Hype 🍞🍦

Imagine biting into a warm, crispy melon pan (a sweet Japanese bread with a crunchy cookie-like crust) only to find it filled with a scoop of cold, creamy ice cream. That’s Ice Melon Pan, and yes—it’s as heavenly as it sounds. This treat is so popular that people line up for hours just to get one. Is it worth the wait? I’d say yes… especially if you’ve got a sweet tooth.

5. Ninja Experience Café – Dine Like a Warrior 🥷

And finally, one of the most unique experiences in Osaka: the Ninja Experience Café. This isn’t just food—it’s an adventure. From ninja-themed dishes to interactive entertainment, it’s the perfect spot to unleash your inner warrior while enjoying a meal. It’s quirky, fun, and makes for amazing memories (and photos!).

Why Osaka’s Street Food is a Must

Osaka has earned the nickname “Japan’s Kitchen”—and once you taste your way through Dotonbori, you’ll understand why. The variety, creativity, and flavor of the street food here is unmatched. Plus, since Osaka was our only overnight port stop on this cruise, being able to explore the city at night—surrounded by neon lights, bikes zipping by, and the smell of street food—made the experience even more magical.

👉 So, which of these Osaka must-try foods are you craving first? Let me know in the comments—and don’t forget to tag your foodie squad who needs to join you in Japan someday!

Did you know there’s a place in South Dakota where you can literally take home a piece of history? 👀 Yep—welcome back to Part 3 of our Crazy Horse Memorial adventure, where we dive into one of the most meaningful and fascinating areas of the entire complex: the Native American Educational and Cultural Center. Located in the heart of the Black Hills of South Dakota, Crazy Horse Memorial is already one of the most awe-inspiring monuments in the United States—but stepping into this center takes the experience to a whole new level.

👀 “Would you believe me if I told you this mountain has had over ELEVEN MILLION tons of rock blasted away… and it’s still not finished? Let me show you why this $5 tour is one of the best travel deals in America.” Welcome to Part 2 of our Crazy Horse Memorial adventure — and today we’re hopping on the guided bus tour that takes you right up to the mountain itself. For just five dollars per person, this ride gets you shockingly close to the carving-in-progress — and trust me… hearing the story while standing beneath it hits completely different. Our guide, Allen, shared how this all began back in 1947, when sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski arrived in the Black Hills from Connecticut… to a place with no roads, no water, no electricity. He literally lived in a tent for seven months before clearing trees and building a log studio by hand. By the late 1950s, with ten kids to raise, the family even opened a dairy farm right on site — and today they still raise cattle here. Oh — and the very first admission to Crazy Horse in 1950? 👉 Just 50 cents per carload.
