๐ŸŒธ Japan Day 9: Exploring Nagasaki with Celebrity Cruises — A Day to Remember!

Siva McAteer • October 6, 2025

Good morning from beautiful Nagasaki, Japan! ๐ŸŒ…

There’s nothing quite like waking up to the soft sea breeze, the sound of gulls, and the city of Nagasaki slowly coming to life. This was Day 9 of our Celebrity Cruise through Japan, and honestly — I think this stop might be one of my favorites yet.

๐Ÿฅ Breakfast with a View

Before heading out to explore, I started my morning the classic way — with a traditional American breakfast onboard. There’s something special about sipping coffee while watching the Nagasaki hills fade into the morning mist. Peaceful. Serene. The perfect start to the day.๏ปฟ

โš“ From the Port to the Heart of Nagasaki

Our adventure began right from the Nagasaki Port, which is one of the oldest ports in Japan. Here’s a cool fact: during Japan’s period of isolation (Edo era, 1603–1868), Nagasaki was the only gateway for trade with the West. That means this city has been welcoming travelers and ideas from around the world for centuries — long before Instagram made travel cool!

You can feel that cultural mix the moment you step off the ship. Japanese, Chinese, and European influences are woven into everything — from the food to the architecture. It’s like stepping into a live history book that’s still writing new chapters.๏ปฟ

๐Ÿ›๏ธ Exploring Nagasaki’s Streets

As we wandered through the city, we discovered charming covered shopping arcades (a signature feature in many Japanese cities), cozy cafés, and scenic waterways that wind through the streets.

We even spotted a black bird with bright red feet perched and enjoying the view — a reminder that Nagasaki has beauty in every tiny corner if you take the time to look.

And guess what? We stumbled upon an American favorite in the middle of Japan — a fun surprise that made us smile. (Hint: it starts with 3 letters and the are KFC ๐Ÿ˜‰).

๐Ÿฎ A Tease for Tomorrow — Nagasaki’s Chinatown

Did you know Nagasaki has one of Japan’s oldest Chinatowns? It’s filled with colorful lanterns, street food, and stories that connect centuries of trade and friendship. I’ll be exploring that in tomorrow’s video — so stay tuned if you love culture, food, and a dash of adventure!

๐ŸŽน A Moment That Hit Home

On our way back to the port, we heard something magical — a street musician playing piano. The song? “Nothing’s Gonna Change My World.”

And yet… that’s exactly what this trip has done.

Watching the sun peek through the Nagasaki hills, I realized — travel doesn’t just show you new places. It changes the way you see your own world. โœจ๏ปฟ

๐ŸŒ Why You Should Visit Nagasaki

If you’re planning a Japan cruise or just exploring Kyushu Island, Nagasaki is a must-visit. From its deep history as an international port to its peaceful parks, delicious street food, and welcoming locals — it’s a city that balances reflection and discovery perfectly.

๐Ÿงญ Travel Tips for Visiting Nagasaki:

  • ๐Ÿ“ Getting There: Most Japan cruise itineraries include Nagasaki as a port stop — but it’s also easily accessible by train from Fukuoka or Osaka.
  • ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ Don’t Miss: The Peace Park, Dejima Island, Glover Garden, and Nagasaki Chinatown.
  • ๐Ÿœ Local Favorite Foods: Champon (Nagasaki-style noodle soup) and Castella sponge cake — a sweet legacy from Portuguese traders!
  • ๐Ÿ›’ Shopping Tip: Visit the Hamanomachi Shopping Arcade for souvenirs, snacks, and traditional crafts.

As the sun sets over the Celebrity Cruise ship deck, I can’t help but smile — Nagasaki left its mark on my heart.

#NothingsGonnaChangeMyWorld ๐Ÿ’›

Until tomorrow, sayonara from Japan! โœจ

Did you know there’s a place in South Dakota where you can literally take home a piece of history? ๐Ÿ‘€ Yep—welcome back to Part 3 of our Crazy Horse Memorial adventure, where we dive into one of the most meaningful and fascinating areas of the entire complex: the Native American Educational and Cultural Center. Located in the heart of the Black Hills of South Dakota, Crazy Horse Memorial is already one of the most awe-inspiring monuments in the United States—but stepping into this center takes the experience to a whole new level.

๐Ÿ‘€ “Would you believe me if I told you this mountain has had over ELEVEN MILLION tons of rock blasted away… and it’s still not finished? Let me show you why this $5 tour is one of the best travel deals in America.” Welcome to Part 2 of our Crazy Horse Memorial adventure — and today we’re hopping on the guided bus tour that takes you right up to the mountain itself. For just five dollars per person, this ride gets you shockingly close to the carving-in-progress — and trust me… hearing the story while standing beneath it hits completely different. Our guide, Allen, shared how this all began back in 1947, when sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski arrived in the Black Hills from Connecticut… to a place with no roads, no water, no electricity. He literally lived in a tent for seven months before clearing trees and building a log studio by hand. By the late 1950s, with ten kids to raise, the family even opened a dairy farm right on site — and today they still raise cattle here. Oh — and the very first admission to Crazy Horse in 1950? ๐Ÿ‘‰ Just 50 cents per carload.
