The Cutest Hot Pot Ever at Kumachan Onsen Kagoshima πŸ»β™¨οΈ

When you think of hot pot in Japan, you probably don’t picture a BEAR melting in your broth… but that’s exactly what makes Kumachan Onsen in Kagoshima one of the most unique and unforgettable food experiences you’ll ever have. And let me tell you—it was bear-illiant!ο»Ώ

A Restaurant That’s All About the Bear 🐾

From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted by walls of teddy bears, plush décor, and all the kawaii (cute) vibes you can imagine. We were led upstairs to the main dining area where the magic really happens. I was honestly shocked we were the only ones there—it felt like we had discovered a hidden gem just waiting to be shared.

To make things even more fun, the restaurant provides bear-themed gear for guests. My daughter and I couldn’t resist the fuzzy headbands, and my husband wore the cutest little bear hat. Yes, we looked ridiculous… but in the best way possible.ο»Ώ

The Star of the Show: Bear in a Hot Spring 🍲

Now let’s talk food. At Kuma-chan Onsen, your hot pot broth literally starts as a bear-shaped block sitting in its “hot spring.” As the bear slowly melts, the broth releases rich flavors, turning into the perfect base for your meats, veggies, and noodles. Watching it happen is almost too cute to eat—but the taste makes it worth it!

And it’s not just the broth that’s adorable. Every dish comes beautifully plated, the sides look almost like works of art, and the drinks? Yep, they’re bear-themed too. (Did I mention all-you-can-drink is an option here? That alone makes this worth a stop in Kagoshima.) 🍹🐻

A Sweet Surprise 🍨

Just when we thought it couldn’t get any cuter, we were each served a complimentary ice cream topped with a tiny bear. It was the perfect way to end the meal—light, fun, and absolutely Instagram-worthy. 🐻✨

Although Kumachan Onsen has a full bear-themed dessert menu filled with adorable sweets (seriously, every single treat is almost too cute to eat), we were so stuffed from all the hot pot deliciousness that we didn’t order dessert. But then, to our surprise, the staff brought out these little ice creams as a gift. There was no way we could say no—and honestly, how nice was that? It was the sweetest ending to an already unforgettable meal. πŸ’•

A Delicious Twist on Japanese Hot Pot

This wasn’t just a novelty meal. The flavors were spot on, the presentation was whimsical, and the overall experience felt like a perfect blend of Japanese tradition and playful creativity. It’s a foodie experience that I’d happily repeat again (and again).

Before leaving, don’t skip the gachapon (capsule toy) machines—you can snag a collectible to remember your bear-y best meal in Japan.ο»Ώ

Fun Fact About Kagoshima πŸ—»

Did you know Kagoshima is famous for its active volcano, Sakurajima? It’s one of the most active volcanoes in the world, and you can often see smoke drifting from its peak. Pairing a volcanic city with a “melting hot spring bear” kind of feels like the perfect foodie match, don’t you think?

If you’re cruising Japan or just exploring Kagoshima, make sure you add this to your must-eat list. It’s not just a meal—it’s an experience you’ll never forget. πŸ»πŸ’•ο»Ώ

Did you know there’s a place in South Dakota where you can literally take home a piece of history? πŸ‘€ Yep—welcome back to Part 3 of our Crazy Horse Memorial adventure, where we dive into one of the most meaningful and fascinating areas of the entire complex: the Native American Educational and Cultural Center. πŸ‘€ “Would you believe me if I told you this mountain has had over ELEVEN MILLION tons of rock blasted away… and it’s still not finished? Let me show you why this $5 tour is one of the best travel deals in America.” Welcome to Part 2 of our Crazy Horse Memorial adventure — and today we’re hopping on the guided bus tour that takes you right up to the mountain itself. For just five dollars per person, this ride gets you shockingly close to the carving-in-progress — and trust me… hearing the story while standing beneath it hits completely different. Our guide, Allen, shared how this all began back in 1947, when sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski arrived in the Black Hills from Connecticut… to a place with no roads, no water, no electricity. He literally lived in a tent for seven months before clearing trees and building a log studio by hand. By the late 1950s, with ten kids to raise, the family even opened a dairy farm right on site — and today they still raise cattle here. Oh — and the very first admission to Crazy Horse in 1950? πŸ‘‰ Just 50 cents per carload.
