Japan Cruise Day 5 – Kochi Adventures Begin with a Shuttle Ride πβ¨
Kochi Adventures Begin with a Shuttle Ride πβ¨

Morning Rituals Onboard βπ₯
We kicked off our morning at Café al Bacio, the perfect spot for a quick sugar rush before the day’s adventures. Between pastries, tea, and coffee, it’s basically heaven for anyone who loves a European-style café at sea.
Brian, of course, loaded up with his favorites—eggs Benedict (classic!) and a massive salad topped with smoked salmon. Meanwhile, my new obsession has been the “make your own congee” station. Congee (or rice porridge) is a popular comfort food throughout Asia, and it actually brought back childhood memories for me. Growing up, we always had a Sunday morning version called Kua Dis—a reminder of how food connects you back to home, even while you’re halfway around the world. β€οΈο»Ώ
Meeting Patrick & Off to Kochi πΈ
On our way out, we bumped into Patrick, our always-energetic Cruise Director, before boarding the shuttle. The ride from the cruise terminal to Kochi City Center is about 30 minutes, and honestly, it’s part of the adventure.
Here’s what to expect:
ποΈ Narration Over the Intercom – You’ll hear fun facts, history, and highlights of Kochi as you ride.
π¦οΈ Weather Ready – We had a few sprinkles, but nothing a light jacket couldn’t handle.
πΈ Warm Welcome at the Drop-Off – When you arrive, local hosts are there to greet you, answer questions, and even pose for photos with fun characters. Talk about feeling instantly at home!
First Impressions of Kochi π―
Even from the shuttle, you can tell Kochi is a hidden gem. It’s not as busy as Osaka or Tokyo, but that’s part of the charm—it’s authentic, welcoming, and bursting with culture. From Kochi Castle to the bustling Hirome Market, there’s plenty to explore (don’t worry—we’ll dive into all that in the next post!).
For now, let’s just say Kochi is shaping up to be one of those ports you’ll always remember—not just for the attractions, but for the little details, like being greeted with a smile the second you step off the bus.
β¨ Stay tuned for more of our Kochi adventure, where we dive into the city itself and see what treasures we can discover!
