It’s Day 4 in Osaka, and what’s the best part? The world-famous Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan is just steps away from the cruise port! 👀 If you’re sailing on a Celebrity Cruise to Japan, you couldn’t ask for a more convenient and exciting shore excursion.

When Kaiyukan first opened in 1990, it was the largest public aquarium in the world. 🌍 Today, it still ranks as one of the largest aquariums in Japan and the 15th largest worldwide. With its massive tanks, immersive exhibits, and unique sea life, it’s a must-visit if you find yourself in Osaka.

✨ Don’t Forget Your Eki Stamp Book! Before even stepping inside, here’s my favorite little travel hack: bring your Eki Stamp Book! 📝 If you’ve never heard of it, Japan has a long tradition of collecting stamps (called eki stamps) at train stations, tourist spots, and attractions. I was worried I wouldn’t get mine stamped since we hadn’t taken trains on this trip… but jackpot! 🎉 The aquarium has plenty of adorable stamps just waiting for your collection. It’s such a fun and inexpensive way to capture memories while traveling Japan.


Fun Fact: Eki stamps started in the 1930s as a way to promote train travel. Now, they’re beloved by kids and adults alike, turning sightseeing into a collectible adventure. Some travelers even plan their trips just to collect rare stamps!

🐋 The Star of the Aquarium: The Whale Shark One of the main highlights of the Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan is its gigantic tank featuring a whale shark—the largest fish species kept in any aquarium. Seeing this gentle giant up close is an experience you’ll never forget. Along with the whale shark, Kaiyukan houses over 620 species, from playful otters to penguins and manta rays.
