Trains, Tech Toilets & Travel Surprises in Fukuoka!

You know those travel days when everything goes off-script but somehow still turns out amazing? That was today in Fukuoka, Japan — our 100th Japan vlog from our Celebrity Cruise adventure!

πŸ’¨ The Great Uber Escape (and the Sneaky Couple!)
We started the day at Nanzoin Temple, home of the incredible reclining Buddha, and when it was time to head back, we thought we’d grab an Uber — easy, right?

Wrong. πŸ˜‚

The moment we stepped out of our Uber, a couple with two little kids slid right in before we could even close the door. They knew exactly what they were doing! I couldn’t even be mad — it was smooth.

So, when it came time to leave… surprise! No Ubers. No taxis. Nada. We were stranded.

Luckily, Japan came to the rescue — in the form of its famously reliable train system. πŸš†

πŸš‰ Riding the Rails: Japan’s Train Magic

We caught the last train out (phew!), and I cannot stress this enough — thank goodness for my portable fan from Don Quijote! If you’ve ever been to Japan, you know Don Quijote is the place for random-but-awesome travel finds.

Fun fact: Japan’s trains are so punctual that the average delay is less than one minute! And if one is late, they actually hand out “apology slips” for you to give your boss or teacher. Only in Japan, right? ❀️

As we rolled back toward the city, the view outside was gorgeous — a perfect mix of suns, quiet countryside, and urban sparkle. By the time we arrived, the train was completely packed, so being one of the first stops was a total win.

πŸ™οΈ Arriving at Canal City Hakata

When we emerged from underground, we found ourselves at Canal City Hakata, one of Fukuoka’s most famous shopping and entertainment complexes — and wow, this place is next-level.

Imagine bridges connecting multiple buildings, walkways floating over water, and even fountain shows synchronized to music. It’s basically a city within a city.

And our first stop? You guessed it — the bathrooms.

🚽 The Smartest Toilet You’ll Ever Meet

I’m not exaggerating when I say this — the toilet was smarter than my phone.

It automatically closed the lid, flushed hands-free, and even played ambient sounds to give you a little… privacy soundtrack. 🎢

Japan takes restroom innovation very seriously. In fact, Japan’s high-tech toilets are world-famous for features like heated seats, bidet functions, deodorizing sprays, and even seat warmers with adjustable temperatures. (Once you try one, there’s no going back! That's why we have two in our house now!)

🍜 Hungry for More?

After all that exploring, we were absolutely starving. But you’ll have to come back tomorrow to see where we finally ate — trust me, it’s worth the wait.

From Nanzoin Temple’s peaceful beauty to Fukuoka’s futuristic shopping hubs, this day was a perfect example of why I love Japan: it’s a country where ancient tradition and modern innovation live side by side — and somehow, it always works perfectly.

🌸 Final Thoughts

Even when plans go sideways in Japan, it somehow becomes part of the adventure. Whether it’s catching the last train, discovering the Canal City Hakata, or getting excited over a toilet that greets you like an old friend, every moment here feels special.

If you’re planning a Fukuoka travel itinerary, make sure to add Canal City Hakata to your list — it’s a must-see stop for shopping, dining, and soaking in Japan’s vibrant urban energy.

Did you know there’s a place in South Dakota where you can literally take home a piece of history? πŸ‘€ Yep—welcome back to Part 3 of our Crazy Horse Memorial adventure, where we dive into one of the most meaningful and fascinating areas of the entire complex: the Native American Educational and Cultural Center. Located in the heart of the Black Hills of South Dakota, Crazy Horse Memorial is already one of the most awe-inspiring monuments in the United States—but stepping into this center takes the experience to a whole new level.

πŸ‘€ “Would you believe me if I told you this mountain has had over ELEVEN MILLION tons of rock blasted away… and it’s still not finished? Let me show you why this $5 tour is one of the best travel deals in America.” Welcome to Part 2 of our Crazy Horse Memorial adventure — and today we’re hopping on the guided bus tour that takes you right up to the mountain itself. For just five dollars per person, this ride gets you shockingly close to the carving-in-progress — and trust me… hearing the story while standing beneath it hits completely different. Our guide, Allen, shared how this all began back in 1947, when sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski arrived in the Black Hills from Connecticut… to a place with no roads, no water, no electricity. He literally lived in a tent for seven months before clearing trees and building a log studio by hand. By the late 1950s, with ten kids to raise, the family even opened a dairy farm right on site — and today they still raise cattle here. Oh — and the very first admission to Crazy Horse in 1950? πŸ‘‰ Just 50 cents per carload.
