Climbing to the Top of Busan’s Gamcheon Culture Village — Worth Every Step!
🌈 Climbing to the Top of Busan’s Gamcheon Culture Village

And wow… what a payoff. The top of Gamcheon Culture Village is bursting with color and life. Every wall is covered in murals, every corner hides a tiny café or art shop, and the atmosphere is pure magic. It’s no wonder this place is called “The Santorini of the East.”
We even stumbled upon some wild and wonderful art installations — like bird sculptures with human faces (yes, really!), and a hilarious little cat statue with the most shocked expression you’ve ever seen. My husband even bought a quirky hat that got him quite a few double takes from other visitors!
For a bit of history: Gamcheon Culture Village was once a modest hillside neighborhood built by refugees during the Korean War. In 2009, local artists and residents transformed it into an artistic landmark — painting homes in bright pastels, adding murals, and turning it into one of Busan’s top tourist attractions.
After soaking in every bit of color, creativity, and charm, we finally made our way back down — thankfully catching a cab to take us back to the city (our legs thanked us later!).
If you’re planning a trip to Busan, make sure to add Gamcheon Culture Village to your itinerary. Bring comfy shoes, a camera, and an open mind — because you’ll find art, heart, and a story behind every turn.
