Celebrity Cruise Japan Day 3: Exploring Dotonbori, Osaka – Neon Lights, Street Food & a 3D Dog! πŸ•βœ¨

Neon Lights, Street Food & a 3D Dog!

If Tokyo is sleek and futuristic, Osaka’s Dotonbori is wild, colorful, and deliciously chaotic. This vibrant district is the beating heart of Osaka nightlife — filled with neon lights, sizzling street food stalls, giant moving billboards, and shopping you simply can’t resist.

On Day 3 of my Celebrity Millennium Cruise through Japan, I dove headfirst into the madness that is Dotonbori — and it quickly became one of my favorite stops of the trip.

Shopping in Dotonbori: Yes, I Bought the Shoes πŸ‘Ÿ

The shopping here is amazing — seriously, there’s no way you’re leaving empty-handed. In fact, if you saw my Ninja Experience video, you might have noticed the shiny silver Onitsuka Tiger sneakers I was wearing. Funny story: those were my daughter’s shoes… and I loved them so much that we had to make a stop at the store. Now we both have matching pairs! (Travel souvenirs don’t always have to be keychains, right?)ο»Ώ

Meet Osaka’s 3D Dog Billboard 🐢

Okay, now for the cutest part of the day — the 3D Akita Inu Dog Billboard. This adorable pup reminds me so much of the 3D Cat Billboard in Shinjuku, Tokyo, but Osaka has put its own spin on it. Watching that giant dog pop out of the screen was such a fun surprise, and yes, I stood there way too long just admiring how cute it was.

Food, Neon & Pure Osaka Energy πŸ’πŸŽ†

Of course, no trip to Dotonbori is complete without talking about the food. The smell of freshly grilled takoyaki (octopus balls) fills the air, and the giant moving crab sign is basically the unofficial mascot of the district. Add in the glowing neon signs, bustling crowds, and quirky themed restaurants, and you’ve got Osaka’s ultimate playground and foodie paradise.

Dotonbori is truly sensory overload in the best possible way — from the flashing billboards to the sizzling street food, there’s something happening everywhere you look. And when the sun goes down, the energy only cranks up even higher.ο»Ώ

Final Thoughts

Dotonbori is a must-see on any Osaka travel itinerary, whether you’re here for the food, the nightlife, or just the fun of wandering through streets that feel like a living theme park.

As a travel blogger and certified travel agent, I love sharing these kinds of adventures to help you plan your own dream trip. Next up: I’ll take you inside one of Osaka’s best takoyaki spots — and trust me, it comes with a surprise twist you won’t want to miss.ο»Ώ

Did you know there’s a place in South Dakota where you can literally take home a piece of history? πŸ‘€ Yep—welcome back to Part 3 of our Crazy Horse Memorial adventure, where we dive into one of the most meaningful and fascinating areas of the entire complex: the Native American Educational and Cultural Center. πŸ‘€ “Would you believe me if I told you this mountain has had over ELEVEN MILLION tons of rock blasted away… and it’s still not finished? Let me show you why this $5 tour is one of the best travel deals in America.” Welcome to Part 2 of our Crazy Horse Memorial adventure — and today we’re hopping on the guided bus tour that takes you right up to the mountain itself. For just five dollars per person, this ride gets you shockingly close to the carving-in-progress — and trust me… hearing the story while standing beneath it hits completely different. Our guide, Allen, shared how this all began back in 1947, when sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski arrived in the Black Hills from Connecticut… to a place with no roads, no water, no electricity. He literally lived in a tent for seven months before clearing trees and building a log studio by hand. By the late 1950s, with ten kids to raise, the family even opened a dairy farm right on site — and today they still raise cattle here. Oh — and the very first admission to Crazy Horse in 1950? πŸ‘‰ Just 50 cents per carload.
