TEENS RAISE MONEY TO HELP GULF COAST HUMANE SOCIETY
Hair Ties That Change Lives (HTTCL) is an IB CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) Project that is spearheaded by Ilise McAteer, a junior at Riverdale High School. Ilise began HTTCL because she wanted to find a way to make a difference in the community by using leftover scraps that her family had from all their sewing projects they did together. She set out to make hair ties in order to raise money for other organizations.
Ilise recruited four classmates: Jaseleth Carranza, Megan Carrigan, Tramese Godfrey, and Alvina Nguyen to help her out with the sewing and assembly of the hair ties and headbands. The first organization that they chose was The Gulf Coast Humane Society.
The goal for the end of the year was to raise $500.00 to give to The Gulf Coast Humane Society. In their first sale, the girls made 175 hair ties and 25 headbands which they sold in the school cafeteria. With less than $40.00, scrap fabrics and a lot of sweat equity they met their $500.00 goal and SOLD OUT in 4 days!
With Christmas over Hair Ties That Change Lives had great success with their Big Holiday Sale. Through direct sales at school and at the Art Walk in downtown Fort Myers they raised $1,244.00! The ladies will be surprising adopters on Friday, March 8, 2019, by paying for their adoption fees from 1:00-5:00 pm. The remaining proceeds will be presented to The Gulf Coast Humane Society at 5:00 pm. Please join us to see the happiness the girls of Hair Ties That Change Lives will be giving to unsuspecting pet parents and their fur babies.
