When my daughter Ilise was looking for scholarships for college we stumbled upon the Asian Professionals of Southwest Florida's (APASWFL) Scholarship. This is a scholarship that was awarded to Asian high school seniors looking to attend college. After my daughter applied she was very fortunate to be awarded a $500.00 scholarship.
Meeting the members of APASWFL was very good and it was there that I learned more about their organization and how they raised funds for their scholarships. Through out the year APASWFL has various fundraising events that contribute to their scholarships. One of the biggest events they produce is AsiaFest.
Now, I am proud to say that I too, am a volunteer at APASWFL and enjoy helping out in any way I can. I have been able to contribute by redesigning their logo, website and putting together the latest 17th Annual AsiaFest "Year of the Ox" Celebration program.
This year we were also proud to be able to attend as a vendor and to represent the Hmong people. At our Hmong booth we were able to showcase Siva McAteer Design Group, LLC, Hmong Book Publishing, Claddagh House Publishing, Hmong Crafts by Iaong Yang, and Olivia McAteer Fashion Design. My husband Brian and I were also both nominated for "Best Costume" at the event. It was a great event and the turn out was amazing. It was good to see so many people out to support the Asian Community.
Looking forward to next year and continuing our new partnership.
Enjoy a few photos from the event!
